BRIEF HISTORY GHANA NATIONAL ASSOICATION OF TRADITIONAL
HEALERS

The first Traditional Medicine Practitioners Association, the Ghana Psychic and Traditional Healing Association now have the Ghana Psychic and Traditional Healers Association (GPTHA) Was established in 1960 under the auspices of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and reconstituted in 1975 bringing all Practitioners under one urnbrella Association.

In1991. The government of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) set up the National Council of Herbal Medicine now Ghana National Association of Traditional Healers (GNATH) which was made up of most of the splinter groups and was charged with the responsibility of uniting all groups of Traditional Medicine Practitioners in Ghana. However, disunity among the splinter groups persisted which hampered financial support and stagnated its progress.

In the year 1992 PNDC L312 gazetted Ghana National Association of Traditional Healers as one of the indigenous associations under the Council of Indigenous Business Associations (CIBA), since then GNATH has flourished and has become one of the most successful Traditional Medicine Practitioners Associations with members all over the country.
GNATH is one of the founding member associations of the Ghana Federation of
Traditional Medicine Practitioners Associations (GHAFTRAM) established in 1999 by government and passed into law by Act of parliament ACT 2000 (ACT 575). It is now the most recognised Traditional Ghanaian Medicine (TGM) practitioners association in Ghana.
